June 4 – 7, 2017
This year’s International Council will take place Sunday, June 4, through Wednesday, June 7, at The Israel Museum, Jerusalem, with the theme of “Art and Artists in our Time”. The focus is contemporary creative culture in Israel and worldwide, and how artists and their artistic enterprise add meaning to contemporary life.
Central to the theme will be the opening of the new exhibition Ai Weiwei: One and the Multitude.
Ai Weiwei will launch the International Council with a keynote address on the resonant ties between China and Israel from antiquity to today, and notions of individuality and peoplehood in both cultures.

CFIM is please to announce a visit the 2017 Venice Biennale. The trip will feature guided tours with a top Curator from Israel Museum to the Giardini, the Arsenale, and the most intriguing off-site exhibitions and national pavilions. You will also have the unique opportunity to be hosted privately by Venice-based collectors, galleries, and sister institutions.
Of special interest will be Israeli artist Hadassa Goldvicht’s site-specific “House of Life” installation at the Palazzo Querini Stampalia curated by Dr. Amitai Mendelsohn, a Senior Curator of Israeli Art. Goldvicht’s most comprehensive work to date, “House of Life” is based on hours of filmed conversations with 86-year-old Aldo Izzo, keeper of the ancient Jewish cemetery in Venice, and residents of the Venice Ghetto, in a setting evocative of the cemetery itself.
If you would like to join the trip, please consider registering soon, as hotel space on the Grand Canal in Venice is very limited.
A full schedule for the trip will follow as Biennale program components are announced.
